On November 22 – 23 2014, Dr. Alexandru Coman participated, in the panel of experts, at the International Symposium for One Health Research in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China.
Dr. Alexandru Coman is a researcher at Center for Health Policy and Public Health, Institute for Social Research, Faculty of Political, Administrative an Communication Sciences, Babes-Bolyai University, ClujNapoca. Dr. Coman is currently serving as the Romania site PI for Avian Influenza Virus Surveillance in conjunction with the NIAID Center of Excellence for Influenza Research and Surveillance of the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital and Co PI for One Health Center for Environmental and Occupational Research (GEoHealthHub for Eastern Europe and Central Asia). His research interests include infectious diseases epidemiology with a special focus on zoonotic respiratory diseases.
The goals of the Symposium are to:
– Promote interdisciplinary One Health research in China and neighboring countries;
– Create new One Health related research collaborations in Asia;
– Encourage young researchers to engage in One Health research.
The event brought together researchers from across China, as well as from neighboring countries such as Bhutan, India, Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Russia, and Vietnam. The participants presented their One Health research along specific themes (food security, zoonosis, environmental science, antimicrobial resistance, wildlife ecology) and also promote One Health research among students through a One Health Student Research Competition.
