Biography
Dr. Cristian Meghea is a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology at Michigan State University and the Director and Co-Founder of the Maternal Health Lab. His work focuses on improving maternal health in underserved settings through community-engaged, interdisciplinary research. A central component of his program is using pregnancy and the early postpartum period as a strategic window to influence long-term health for women and their families and to reduce persistent disparities in outcomes.
He leads clinical and population-level studies aimed at improving care for Medicaid-insured pregnant individuals and develops behavioral and digital interventions to reduce tobacco use during and around pregnancy. His research has received sustained support from major funders, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), Romania’s national research funding agency, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and several additional partners.
Dr. Meghea has authored or co-authored 55 peer-reviewed publications, which have accumulated more than 700 citations, with work appearing in JAMA Open Network, JAMA Pediatrics, American Journal of Preventive Medicine, Pediatrics, American Journal of Public Health, and the European Journal of Public Health.
